The master’s degree in Urban Planning in the Shri Vaishanav Institute of Planning trains students and scholars in the field of knowledge and management of current scenario , global change, through varied approaches and innovative methods. This master’s degree adopts a multidisciplinary, integrated, and interactive approach to development planning strategies, with specific attention to the use of technical and practical methods at the same time.
All the students study the introduction course in first semester that presents the subject and deepens their understanding of how planning and design practices can enhance sustainable urban development . All the courses mainly address different methodological, theoretical and practical aspects of urban planning.
Second and third semesters take it to the next level. Where the students' specialise by integrating accumulated knowledge into applied project work. Projects are supported by several core courses highlighting conceptual and analytical approaches. The scale of studio subjects is increased in terms of area and planning techniques. Out of the state studios plays an important role to understand different approaches of planning perspectives in third semester.
The programme concludes with a Thesis degree project carried out in the fourth semester. The degree project allows students to investigate an in-depth solution under the supervision of experienced practitioners and researchers.
Throughout the programme, invited lecturers from local/regional authorities, consultancies, and other private actors gives students insights into the contemporary practice of planning. In studios and on project assignments, you work with on-going city development projects in the region, which allow students to apply their knowledge in sustainable planning and design in a practical setting.
